Watched this also Frosty. I was heartbroken knowing that they probably don't get much to any use :/ And a few of them were fine anvils with sharp edges.... :/ oh well

its the flat dye. the edges are radiuses to keep from accidentally dinging up the work, I'm sure there are other reasons that i don't know about but surely brian does because thats what he uses :) 

Those do help, they look similar to the pictures I googled but are closer. Now, on that hammer, is the left side "square", or is it just rounded differently?

This is my anvil 180Lb Peter Wright. As I stated the I beam anvil will just be a hardy holder/bench anvil.

My apologies :) Looking good! Can't wait to see it with a fire in it! Not sure if you have an oxy / ac torch but you can use that to heat the I beam and bend it. Make cuts on both sides of the part so it bends (sorry for a bad description)

Get a better anvil. That one has almost no mass underneath it. A RR track would work better.

You could use a oxy/ac torch, but it won't turn out nearly as clean as what dcraven mentioned.

I clear the fuel from around where the air enters the fire pot and build up a pile of wood chips and wood pieces, once the coals build up (fairly fast) start piling fuel around the edges and let it grow then build up the pile and bam hot fire :P leave a flame out the top to burn off a good bit of the smoke. I know this may not be an answer to your question but thats how i do it :)

mount a RR track to a large stump (i mean really mount it down so it won't budge) and weld a square tube on the end for a hardy hole, you can make a punch plate to slide over the hardy hole.  That works. Anvils don't come that cheap for a decent size. unless you want an ASO 

Perhaps the question really is "What would *you* do with them?" as blacksmiths are notorious for re-purposing stuff c.f the ballistic missile nose cone I use as a cone mandrel

I had an ASO for a while and then finally got me a brooks cast steel. MAN can i tell the difference!!!!  Cast iron will crack and is very soft. I found that a piece of railroad track mounted down to a stump at proper hight works better than an ASO. But i would recommend finding an actual anvil soon. Even a good piece of solid steel will work. a good 4"x 4"x 12" solid piece of steel will work great! It doesn't have to be any kind of special steel, mild steel works fine.  Even though an ASO may not be great, still use it and start working! Welcome to the addiction. :)

technicus joe uses silica sand if i am correct. 

One of my relatives sells these little "tasers" that he uses to treat brown recluse bites. He specializes in brown recluse bites. The shock from the taser is only 1/10 the shock of a defensive taser. The electrical charge reacts with the poison atoms and breaks them down. He has a whole notebook on the process of it. Very interesting. Just thought it may be handy to know. He has had patients that got bit and he treated them with this shock treatment for a week. he check backed with them in 2 weeks, their pain was gone and the bite healed up. no doctors visit needed. NO he does not sell them anymore so I'm not trying to advertise for him. just thought it may be handy to know. Im not sure if it works on other creepy crawler bites.

I know what david is talking about and have seen them used! They are very handy if your anvil has bad edges. Need to make one myself. Never have thought about different radiuses  on the edges. Good idea! ill give it a whirl when i get around to making one.
