I always step drill also. That's the way my dad taught me to do it, wether hand drilling or using a drill press. It takes a little longer spending the time to change bits, but its easier on the bits and equipment.

Welcome Ritchie. I'm new here to. I don't have much to add except to remember to always work as safely as possible. Don't be afraid to try making new things and making mistakes. These guys here will do their best to try and help you out. Hope you are having fun and enjoying your new venture.
Hello everyone. I happened upon this site while researching a project that I was working on. It seems that I always have some sort of project going that includes metal forming and shaping of one sort or another. This site shows alot of good engineering and practical experience in use. I will be posting in the various forums as I go from one problem to the next in search of a better way to make things work the way they should.

Awhile back a member maltesehunter posted some pictures of a helve hammer and a Champion 203 drill press. I hope that he has them both working by now. The Champion 203 that I have was my late fathers. He aquired it in the mid 1950's and I grew up using it. It is powered by a 1930's era Century motor. Everything works on it and it has always been a pleasure to use and does a great job.
