Has anybody tried coating hard fire brick with itc 100 and using it in a gas forge? Does it reach welding temps?

What type of materials are typically used for a frame lock. Titanium seams to be popular, but is there a particular grade to go with. I checked onlinemetals.com and they had grade 2. Would 304 stainless work well or would I have to go with 316?

That must be what he called it, it was just mig welding up the seams of the billet then forge welding as usual.

So I've recently heard of a way to forge weld caled dry welding. Where you prepare the billet as usual then mechanically weld up the seams then bring to welding temp and forge weld, Kinda like putting cable in a stainless pipe. My question is would this process reduce the chances of slag inclusions?

So I've heard of people using mfd board to make 10" contact wheels. To me laminated plywood with a pice of leather glued to the contact surface seams a little less deadly. What does the hive think?

I keep all my tools on a shelf, it even has a name it's called the floor.......I have places for them but they always end up there.

Hmmm I would think having a harder blade would be a bad idea for stage steel use. Thanks for the responses.

Baltimore knife and sword advertises that their stage swords have a nice ring, which they do. My question is what make a sword ring better. Is it the type of metal, the temper, blade geometry, or magic invisible fairies?

The thermalarc 211i is a mig, stick, and tig combo, it is also 110 and 220v. It runs $1259 on welders-direct.com. It's the one Im going to get when a get a little extra cash. To be honest I have found that there are times when it would be nice to have multiple processes for projects.

That's a different story if SHE buys a gift for "me" that's for her......I would not dare try that lol.

Yep that's the plan. I just did the plain iron because the traditional 6 year anniversary gift is iron.

I ended up getting a 1' 5/8 round bar. I forged it down to 3/8 twisted and then forged that to abt 1/8 flat. And this is how it ended up.

Ok, I got a hold of some wrought iron and am waiting for it to be shipped. My question is is there anything I should know about forging wrought iron. I know forge at yellow, and forge weld when it is about to spark. Anything else that would be helpful?

I understand that it is usually on ebay, in fact I know that because every time I search ebay for anything related to blacksmithing wrought iron comes up except when I need it, go figure. I was hoping somebody had some they were willing to sell or know of some on hand. The reason I'm so set on wrought iron is the traditional 6year anniversary gift is iron. Thanks for everyones input. Sorry if I sound impatient, its getting closer to the anniversary.

I tried ebay but came up short, I don't mind the striated look, in fact that's my goal. If I was going to forge weld it it would probably be thicker. I would forge weld it together then pound it out to 1/16 ish.
