I think making your own hammer is awsome. I don't think I would have a problem making one ,knowing what I know and have done before. but making the punch is gonna kick my tail. cannot get my head wrapped atound the shape to make one. put in a lot of handle over the years so the eye shape I know. gonna have to get aut and start beating one out to fit an old hammer I guess

I would use cooking oil. it pentetrates better and replaces the sap/moisture. it will take several coats . the end grain will really soak it up.

IMHE linseed oil stays basically on the outside. cooking oil will penetrate

I cut out a bunch of angle out of a refrigerated boxcar back in the mid 70's. even with both side doors open and top hatches open , it still kicked my butt

do not get the cheap kitty litter from Walmart in the blue bag.it is junk.2/3's or more shale or chat.messed up what little clay I had by using it

heat the cast and use a big easy-out.do not smack it with a hammer

I use a lot of bolts for things like that.sucker rod hard to come by. cut off the head an threads an go to work.good job on the fork

they were baking the bricks.also they had to heat up the rim to expand it to get a tight fit.the rim holds all the  pieces together.felloes,spokes hub.1st time I

have seen it done.heard how ,but never got to see it.the smiths I got to see growin up were in their 70's an 80's an wagons were phased out by then

you may want to try puting the lit paper in the pipe some nite then go outside. that burning pice of paper will travel quite a ways before it goes out.just sayin

I keep thinkin a 6 or 8 sided Navajo hogan .lay it out an dig an pour a footing.then build from there

boy them rope twisters are high dollar dudes.even the wooden kind with bent hooks. this tool could be a strand spreader or separator as the rope is being twisted

the center hole looks tapered like a "rein rounder" for smoothing up the completed job

for the windows,drill a hole for each arch.then find somebody with a bandsaw or power hacksaw

I made a wooden one years ago and did not put a handle in,just drilled big holes for my sledge handle to go through.

Dang! a feller could  re-shape the economy with all of those!

Dale I junked out my old dodge pickup a while bac,it was an 84 modle half ton before I hauled it off I pulled the rear brake drum off,good and deep

should work as good as a  rotor.the forge I am building now I used an automobile torque convertor.these things are at least 3/16 thick

should last as long as I will

those coil spring handles are neat I bought a big fork years  ago somebody had made using a big staple from a telephone /electric pole

they had welded a peice of round rod to the staple then the handle and coil spring.overall it is not 24" long but works good outside.

the staple is also kinked a bit

most places that have semi trailers have their own mechanics.trailer springs are real easy  come by at these shops .they are at least 1" thick at

the thickest part. that hammer looks real good.one pic it looks like a shoeing hammer.
