hi ya all!
greath project!! i was thinking of building a greath bellows myself in the spring to.
I understand why lots of you advise canvas instead of leather, indeed its cheaper en has less maitanece , but it may be worth to consider the fact that leather is much more fire resistend than oiled canvas.. this is especially importand if your shop is rather small (en forge and bellows are relatively close together), of course there are flame bloking spray's on the market, but i dont know if they would stick to oily canvas??
Am i beeing overly concerned here? -
love it! elegant, simple , gracius, solid... a work of art..

ok thnx guys ,
i did a bid on it , so i'm gonna see where it goes, i'm not paying 200€ for it, but if i can get at a lower price , that would be nice.
For me its as a second anvil to use on jobs as farrier anvil but also for demo's and fairs.. -
hello,
I'm looking around for a smaller anvil for demo's and such, found this one on a local auctioning site, looks interesting, but i don't really know the tape and brand, there's a picture of a partialy visible logo.
Does annybody have anny imput about this, and what would you think it's worth? should i bid on it?
here it is; oud aambeeld
kind regards!! -
Hello,
I understand you want to train your physieke in order to improve your matrial arts, adding extra weith is not the wright way to go. but
most competition wapons or training wapons are way lighter then the real deal, so make yourself something blunted with the real weight (you might add just a litle, not mutch ..) and trai with it,.. allot! keep repeating the same movements over and over, faster and faster... improvemt comes from investment in tiome and effort, not from using a bigger weigth, martial arts are about combat ability , so you need to build a strong lean body.. thats fast slender and tough, not just big and muscular....
thats only my opinion ofcourse.. i'm only a green beld in judo, but pretty good in shoy lay fut, and i'v had training with staff (chineese wax wood for competition, seasoned hazel for training) and with the chinese broad sword.
Find yourself a teacher and put in the right emount of effort! and enjoy!! -
really like the style of this work!!!
I use only reclaimed materials for all of my products.
Everything from old farm/heavy equipment to discarded furniture.
A woodworking friend and I recently purchased 14,000 linear ft of Bankari and Brazilian walnut that was rejected at a lumber yard due to yard damage and customer rejection. All of this was destined to be cut up and headed for the dumpster.
Everything (well almost) gets used. The small drop from larger projects gets turned into smaller pieces or used as components
It's amazing what's out there if you have a little imagination.
Here's a couple of pics of what it gets used for. -
witch out with rims! i'v seen some galvanised under the paint... so be sure to look out!

Thank you Matt. If you find something to correct, just tell me and I'll be glad to learn something more.
And as for your luck, (and I don't want to judge in any way, I am not in that situation so I can only talk about what I see from my standing point of view) I am afraid that, too many times, those who speak english don't see the need to learn other language and, because of that, miss a very good opportunity to learn another way of thinking too. Just an example: in japanese, the word catastrophee is the same as opportunity. Incredible but so true. When everything gets wiped out, you have an opportunity to restart from scratch! Now imagine that you're raised with this thinking, your youth long. You cannot look at life the same way as those who have not been raised with this very real connection; you get courage in front of bad things just because you already look at the afterwards. In another language (I think it's gaelic), there are no possesion words. Things can't be yours. When you talk about something, you have to describre the relationship you have with it: the fork I am eating with; the land I walk on; the women I live with and so on. In reality, the only thing that ever becomes really ours is the energy we get when we eat and, even there, it's only temporary as we will give it to something else like a piece of iron we forge! Amazing! When you learn different language, you also learn the philosophy of the people who live and had lived with this language. Being from two different cultures that are very small in North America, I am faced with a third one which brings it's own set of values which can clearly be felt just by the way the people talk. Listen to Italian people when they talk: they are singing; their words have a special rythm that can only bring passion! I could give you multiple examples of those very interesting differences in the cultures. And I can tell you that there are real things, feelings, moods that I can only say in english because there is no word for that in french or abenakis! Impressive isn't it? So, to conclude, I feel that I am the lucky one! Because I am rich of different cultures and I HAVE to be open to the others!
Maybe you could feel that I am passionnate about that. That's true. As much as Jake Pogrebinsky when he talks about technology in blacksmithing. Because I am afraid that the trend toward standardisation is going to cut us from all those beautiful and significant differences that we should rather cherish.
I believe that, luckily, we, those who work with raw material, have not completly drawn into this standardisation and we still feel the natural energy of things, often more than we think them. But I still want to conclude with Albert Einstein's words : (my own translation) Intuition is a sacred gift while the rational mind is only a faithful servant. We have created a society that honour the servant and has forgotten the gift!
Have a very good day!
I couldn't agree more with you on every point, parceque il y a toujour quelqe chosse a etudier dans la monde entier, und wir m -
There are thousands of hours of instructional video/dvds available but you need a TV to watch.
pc plays dvd's just fine... video.. wasn't that just an old myth like dragons, atlanthis and turning lead into gold :D -
He (my grandfather) felt that TV was a poor use of time. As for the rest of ya, don't jump on me about knocking TV!!!! It were not me, it was me ganddad!!!.
I for one won't, I don't own a tv, and I dont want one, they are a waste of time , space, and energy! -
just from a round piece of sheet a stump and a rounding hammer... like making a spoon, but taking it a step further... it looks not a straight as one made from piping, but its more organic

I also like good light, power tools, music, cold beer and a little boob toob in the evenings. Electricity is GOOD.
Frosty
..."boob toob"... ya say what now?! -

we have some with a tool stand simular to this at the shop where my classes are, but none are so rigid as yours is, and also like the idea that you can pivot your tool stand.
I'm gonna build my vise stand this weekend, do mind if i use your design for imput? ;-D -
i'm well aware of the advantages of side draft or hoods, my question actually is; would it work to use 2 stove pipes next to eachother, instead of one big one (be it either for side draft or hood) cause i hove allot of the 7 inch stuff lying around.
-
accces it true a proxy site, preferably an amarican based, you'l get in english than
-
hey guys,
As you may know from previous post i'm in the process of building my new shop, I'm about to build my chimeny hood and chimeny. A side draf is not an option (structural issues) so its gonna be a pipe right up, with a sheet matal hood (i'm thinking aboud making it hight adjustable), but now I'm having doubs about the pipe's I'm using, theire about 6.7 in (18cm) in diameter, would this do.; i'm not sure.. s i was thinking of putting two of them next to eachother, would this work ? or would this just create a draft between the pipes and thus lower the total draft of the chimeny instead of largening it..? what are you guys opinions about this?
thnx! -
