  1. This will be awesome. I look forward to receiving more knowledge from two obviously well versed smith's! My work has improved ten fold since I Joined this site. I owe most of my successes to this site. It's overwhelming how kind and willing all of you are to share knowledge and information! KUDO'S to all of you who have contributed to my learning. Thanks so much to Steve Sells and Rich Hale for getting this chat up and running. I highly encourage all new smiths young and old to participate and help make a great thing ever better!

  2. I don't use a vise for blade finishing.....I clamp the blade to a board and clamp the board to the bench. Then I do all my draw filing like that. Clamps are cheap and easy to find. Just a thought. Always anneal after forging and the finishing will be much easier. Cheers and enjoy!

  3. 126 layer twist with nickel silver and red micarta. Blade mat'l is 15N20 and pallet strapping. It heat treated well and seems nice and hard......we'll see about that after I give it a bunch of abuse! As you can tell the handle has not been glued or finished. I will post again when it's finished!

  4. With two strikers myself and my silent shop partner Tim, we had this baby at welding heat for about 3 hours and twice as many gallons of water! Thanks again for the compliments! It does fuel my inner forge LOL!

  5. The square tubing pictured is what I used for the can. I filled it with steel filled the voids with powdered steel and the YES I hammered it out by hand. Things guys have said would be difficult to do make it even more rewarding when completed. Yes I will be posting progress pics. I will adding the twist to this billet tomorrow night so more pics will be up soon!

Thanks for the encouraging words from all who posted! The Rousing helps big time!
