112 not 144 for the first number, thanks. me and numbers can't get along.
i have wire brushed it every where , can't find any other markings.
Ferrous they seem to be made the same.Your photos are clear and they show the casting grain of the metal
Is not the finer grain but a coarser grain. As mine also is.
I have a Peter Wright that a friend who ownes a scrap yard gave me,some one
Cashed it in for pennies on the pound.
It weighs around 150 Lbs. when hit with a hammer it does not bounce back at you like this anvil.
On the PW you can see where the top part was added. Not so with this anvil. -

Hi,
My spring on my vise broke like a pretzel when I heated it up to bend it to get more spring out of it.
I forgot to temper it. I welded the spring with a mig, then tried to temper it . It broke again.
Is there hope for this one , or what else could be used for a spring?
Thanks Keith -
Jim ,that alone is an import safety factor .
I stepped on a few different makes before, this one seemed so effortless i thought it must not be to powerful.
The gas to get to Chicago would bring up the price a couple hundred more. -
Hi, got a chance to get a clay spencer treadle hammer for $500 . I have a 25 lb. LG. I've been trying to blacksmith for 2 yrs. but only can do it 1 day a week. Hope to do it more often , just can't seem to quit working yet.
How often do you use yours? What do you use it for?
Thanks, Keith s

Hi, I got the Treadle Hammer to my place, thought I was going to take it in the basement . But the the anvil is solid 5x5 . This a picture of one exactly like mine . What name or who designed this hammer. The previous owner said he went somewhere and a group of guys each built one, together . Thanks Keith
