  1. These guys are in Cinncinatti http://www.minelco.com/en/Contact/Minelco-Inc-USA/
  2. If this has already been asked, sorry to ask the question again. Can you repair an Anvil by bolting a new face onto it? I was wondering if you could buy a nice piece of say 1/2" to 1" thick tool steel that is already hardened and bolt it on to an existing anvil or even say one of those cheap cast iron anvils. I ask about bolting because the little I've read suggests that welding the tool steel on would ruin its hardness. Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm very new to this hobby and trying to learn.
  3. Thank you all for the kind welcome and links. I will certainly followup on them!
  4. Stumbled on this site while trying to educate myself about blacking smithing. My 11 year old wants to learn how to do black smithing. Of course, as all 11yr olds do, he wants to make a sword. I told him that sword making was the pinnacle of black smithing and would require years of learning. That didn't put him off so now its time to start the adventure. I plan on building the 55 gallon forge with him over Christmas break and he is going to get coal in his stocking. I bought him a 100 pounds from a local supplier. Any way, I have already learned a lot from reading all of your posts and look forward to learning more. I am now on the hunt for a suitable anvil. But for now, we will be using a chunk of railroad track we got from a friend.
  5. Just a note, lead goes for a lot more than $10/100 pounds. I regularly sell it to bullet casters for $1/pound shipped. You can easily get 50 pounds in a medium USPS flat rate box and that costs $10.50 to ship anywhere in the US. That gets you about $0.85/pound. If you have a couple of hundred pounds your well on your way to having enough for an anvil. Try this website if you want to sell it. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/
