Frosty- your stick tip, is it just a single length of round stock wound and split at the end for a fork? Hard to see from the pic.
 

Here are a few ideas i've collected from the web over the years. (Maybe this is the year I'll make some of them!)

It's cold here.

So very, VERY cold! It's negative 7 degrees out (without the wind chill!) and I'm sick of it.
SICK OF IT I TELL YOU!  

I haven't even seen my garage door for months, so forging is out of the question until at least the early spring.

So lets focus on warmer days and Summer nights camping under the stars!
I found this picture from an article called "110 of the best popular Mechanic DIY ideas ever" and thought it very clever.

"The camp hanger shown is easily made by attaching hooks to an old leather belt," we recommended in April 1921. For hardware, hang S-hooks or bend stout wire through holes punched in the leather. "The hanger will be found quite a convenience for clothing and utensils used around the camp."

It made me wonder what else you guys have come up with for the campsite?

Weenie roasters from RR spikes? Camp cookware from rebar? Mason jar,  glass insulator or wine bottle lanterns?

I'd love to see your ideas and projects.
 

I've used the floor wax idea too, but that wouldn't be food safe. I've never used Canuba oil.

I've always it would be great to have a thread that would offer different techniques and recipes for for finishes with pics to show the results.

The Wilder forge I bought had flames coming from the side port when closed, a firebrick against the door sealed it up nicely.

I've been messaging with another member who is planning on getting a single burner forge. I have the double burner (from Wilders) and a question came up that I'd like to share to get your thoughts.

Would a double burner use less fuel to reach a desired temp than a single one?

I would think you'd need to crank more fuel into a single burner to reach the same temp (In the same amount of time), but then again the other forge has 2 burners so does that mean it uses more fuel?

I second the iforge section at anvilfire, and here's another nice list from F.A.B.A. I refer to from time to time.

I just got the 2 burner from Wilder's forge and I love it.

It heats up fast, and is awesome for my small project needs. (Like you i'm still making small items as a hobby, no railings or gates just yet!)

They have been a great help with my many questions, and the prices can't be beat. 

I was going to build my own, but realized i'd be spending just as much, if not more, than buying one all ready to go.

Not sure I remembered this exactly word for word, but I did like it's meaning.

I just asked my wife if she's ever heard of a button hook, and she not only knew what it was, she added the interesting tidbit of how they were also used at Ellis Island to flip the eyelid over to check for certain diseases.

I wont get to forge until after the Holidays, but I'll let you know what I did with it!

I got a new gas forge for Christmas (I peeked!), so I'll be spending a bit of time getting used to using gas instead of coal!

I once had a slingshot with that used the tubing and the tube popped off while aiming. I always tied mine from that point on.

Safety first!

I had a friend with a bandsaw who was going to cut some RR spikes for me to make a few crosse, but I must not have been too clear with my telephoned directions, because he cut them lengthwise on both sides the entire length of the spike.

I'm looking for ideas on what they could be used for. You Guys (and Gals) are pretty imaginative, what do you think?

Make it a challenge of sorts!

Maybe a coat hook, with 2 scrolls at the top and 2 hooks at the bottom with the spike head as a place for a hat in the middle?

A business card holder?

Any other ideas?

Love the handle, but having 3 blocks on one side and only one on the other drives my OCD nuts! :blink:

Did they find a skeleton? Why was the sword bent like that, was it part of the cause of his death, or something symbolic they did in those days? Is this a single grave or do you think more would be in the area? (I don't know if they just got buried where they fell or if they had cemeteries back then.)

I can only hope it was in the thousands I could not afford, because if you say it was only a hundred bucks or something, my head may actually pop off my shoulders!

It just occurred to me that if I used a small piece of pipe I could flare one side for the sharpener, then the other as a candle snuffer, sort of like an hour glass shape with a rod to hold/hang it..
