Thomas, I am just a beingger at knife making (stock removal method). I only have a hacksaw and some files right now, saving for a grinder. No more the 6 feet is all I need, actualy 3 to 5 feet would be better. I really do not know what steel I would good at yet so I am still in the experimental stage. I live in Jacksonville, FL. Does anyone know where I could purchase some steel? I am looking for high carbon steel in the 1050 to 1070 range. Flat bar stock, 3/16" thick. Thanks, Katsumoto

Does anyone know where I could go to get my hands on an anvil like the ones used by Japanese swordsmith? They appear to a solid rectangular block of steel. Need some direction. Thanks, Katsumoto

Hello All, Does anyone have any information on how to go about grinding a blade with convex sides? I have seen Japanese style blades with the convex side and have read about them in a few magazines. But does anyone have a step by step approach to grinding one. I am a beginner in the art of stock removal method of knife making. I will be attempting to make a 7 3/4" tanto from a peice of 1095 carbon steel (1 1/2" x 5/16" x 12"). Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you for your time, Katsumoto

Thanks for the info. I already have 5 peices of 1095 and I am going to be making blades in the 5" to 8" range. I will see how it works and go from there. Maybe I will try some 1050 or 1065 steel next time. Katsumoto

Does anyone have any info on how to heat treat 1095 carbon steel using the Japanese claying method? And what method and temp do you temper after the heat treating? Thanks, Katsumoto

Hello, I am just getting started in bladesmithing. I ahve been collecting blades of all types for about 26 years. I have been studying martial arts for just about the same time. I have gotten iterested in Japanese style blades seriously about 2 years ago. So that is the direction my blade making will be heading.
