Thanks for the info. Now I just need to go get some bar stock.

I just got a G2 guillotine tool from yesteryear forge. It came with a set of flat and fullering dies. I was wondering if some of you guys can give me some ideas on making other dies for it.

I have this blower also. I just got it at an auction for $60. It was locked up, but I got it working. The problem im having now is the "pet cock" doesn't work. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get replacement parts for it? Being the hard headed person I am. I got the gears moving just a little and decided I would try to force them to move some more and broke the cast handle mount in to 3 peices.

thanks for the advise i will work on that.

Nice looking forge, it's a good size. The fire rake looks good, nothing like a good fire rake, it's what I use in the wood stove for everything. Some folk call smithing addictive, heck I joke about it but it isn't. What blacksmithing really is, is the ULTIMATE boy work, play with fire, hit things with hammers, bend things, cut them with HAMMERS, it's hot, smoky, dangerous, stuff can cut you, burn you, fall on you and break things, it's smelly dirty and just oh SO manly. I'm surprised all men aren't smithing. Oh okay, so the guys who rappel into volcanoes, work in BIG foundries and astronauts have a release that MIGHT, just might ease the need to smith. I am a touch mystified though. You're actually taking a couple days off to write a paper? Oh, what IS the world coming to? Frosty the Lucky.
Thanks Frosty.
Well it didn't work out with me taking off a couple of days. I still fired it up. Been making alot of wall hooks, and some hooks that will hang on c-perlin. -
Thanks for the ideas.

My daughters kindergarden class is raffling off a complete grilling set up. They are asking the parents to donate stuff for it. I was thinking about forging the cooking tools. I was wondering if y'all would post some pics of the cooking utensils you have made to give me some ideas.
Thanks

I got some 4" x 6" 3/8 angle from the scrap yard and cut the pieces from my fire box out of the 6" side.

Im already sliding down. I wont have much forge time this week. I need to write my college history term paper before Sunday midnight.

Thanks Don. The forge works really well, I was not sure if the blower was gonna be enough. I found out that it was more than up to job. I need to make a few more tools then will be good to go.

I can attest to picking things up when your young and the problems you get when your older. When I was 24 I picked up a 3 flight 12" rock auger, it was about 4' in length with a 4" solid stem. I dont have any idea what it weighted total, but when I put it down there were stars flashing in my eyes. Now I have a back problem with 4 bulging disks and degenerative disk disease. I say work smarter not harder.

We do get along great. I thank the lord for putting me in this family. I will make him all the nice stuff he wants .

I have the best father in law ever. Not just for the following reason, but for every thing he does for me and my family. I asked him about renting a decent size shop that he owns thats about 1/4 mile if that from me. To make into my shop. He said he wouldn't rent it to me that I could just turn into the shop I want. It might be a little while before I can start getting it set up because it is full of junk. He is letting me set up my stuff behind his shop at his house until we can get the other shop all cleaned out.

Oh yeah, the whole forge cost me maybe $15 to build. I got all the metal for free except the 3/8" plate. I picked it up at the scrap yard for .20 cents a pound. The blower was given by a friend from work. Now I just need to get a stand for my swage block and anvil made and I will be ready to go.
-
Backwoods Blacksmith I want a metal stand because I like to build things out of metal. I will probably use a stump my father in law found until I get the materials to build the stand I have in mind. The stand I want to build is a sand box. Thanks for the compliment.

If you get something like this you will have to be carefull. It can and will damage the metal you are trying to get the scale off of. -
Looks great!

This is the second knife I have made. The stand is made from mesquite, that has been debarked, sanded, and then wiped down with natural daish wood oil.
