  1. Personally I like Rob Grunter's process of rebuilding an anvil. It has worked very well for me in the past, only I changed the Stoody 1105 1/8in rod to Stoody 965 G .045 wire. This wire held up fine for the anvils I rebuild. When it comes time to grind down the hard facing I use a 9in Milwaukee angle grinder with a 6in Norton Charger cup stone works great. Just my opinion on doing rebuild.

    Also that anvil is just fine to use until you are sure if you want to rebuild it

  2. Hello, What you found is part of an anvil vise. The vise part is missing. As far a using it for blacksmithing, it is hollow and made of cast iron. Anyone can about figure out how will that will work, it won't look like that for long. Also to me that is not worth a $100, not being complete.

  3. I would say if you have the knowledge or at least an idea why not try forge welding a new face on. If the anvil is almost completely unusable it would end up being in someone's flower bed or used as a door stop, or even worse at the scrap yard. So there is nothing really to lose in the long run.
