  1. I forged this from a spike. peened and filed on the spine. I tried a new method of hardening the cutting edge. It involves using a small quenching tray to submerge only the cutting edge. It looks like it worked fine.

  2. I finished this knife this morning. I purchased a handfull of files from someone for 3$. this one had been broken. After peparing the material(normalizing and annealing) I grinded and filed the blade. then sanded up to 2500 grit. I made the guard from 6061-t6 aluminum( this is my first guard). The handle is made of Brazilian cherry with stainless steel stud and an aluminum lanyard hole. The blade was clay fired and tempered twice. the blade was slightly etched as well. I still need to make the sheathe for it.

  3. I consider myself a "beginer". i would suggest leaving the foundry work for later. start off with Your basic bladesmith-blacksmithing hammer skills. Do a lot of research on the internet and the library on methods and practices of bladesmithing....AND most of all, PRACTICE.

I built my first gas forge for about 20$.. Using materials from second hand building stores and garage sales, yard sales ect... just keep in mind that there will definately be mistakes made along the way.

  4. Thank you. I looked online to see if anyone had ever made a sheathe like this, i didnt find any. Ive seen some that were made from wood. This was a trial and error type project. Ive been wearing it for several days and its holding up fine.
