Blood alcohol over .3 is possibly deadly and .40 and over is most likely deadly so a .85 in a child would definitely end in death. However you cant equate ethyl alcohol with beer, wine or hard liquor as it is two different things. ethyl alcohol will make you sick in small doses( can cause blindness coma, death in larger doses). also considering ethyl alcohol is like acetone and naptha in that it evaporates extremely quickly so the danger is limited mainly due to the ingestion of it directly from a bottle(purell in this case).
It is common sense to keep stuff like this away from very young children. However it seems like in the world anymore common sense is like wrought iron- was everywhere up until a short time ago and now you could spend years searcing for it and come up with nada.

Wow its in good shape, horn is kinda shiny tho and pointy, you gonna regret that point first time you accidently run into it.
Hi jr,
the horn really isnt too pointy. I Used sandpaper flap disks mainly because it had some minor pitting under all the gunk that was on the horn.

One thing that works well for me in the heat is called headsweats(thats the name of the company there are others). It is basically a sweat band with a bandana stitched to it. You can probably get them online or at a local bicylce store.

Hi all,
Just a heads up that the lancaster PA HF has three 110 lb anvils and two to three 55 lb anvils. These are the russian steel anvils. I am not interested in them and I know these are not the best but they are better than a lot of scrap metal some use for anvils.

Didn't realize there was such a demand for such a thing, what with todays hydrualic iron workers. It was offered to me by a friend that does a lot of business with the local scrappers. He drags things home like this becuase it is a shame to see them scrapped, but if nobody wants them, he has no choice but to take them back as he has limited room.
Dave
Hi dave,
a lot of small shops and hobbiests still use them.

Actually hit the flea markets and look for an OLD trailer ball. They dont have the flat section on top and considering what they are used for are tough as xxxx( to quote rusty).

i cant remember where i saw this but it was scrawled on an anvil:
Art is long
Life is short
So get going
( always made me ask the question who is Art and why is he bragging?)

Hi welder,
Theres one screw on top that has to be removed i believe and just as skunk said it slides off away from the fan housing( i think). There may be an old gasket and i have learned that old gaskets seem to hold better than crazy glue!

Hi all,
Its been two years since Jim "PAW PAW" Wilson passed. So be careful when using galvanized steel- or better yet use something else it ain't worth it.

Sorry ed,
I was talking tool holders for scrapers- they are kinda expensive when you can make your own for a lot less - not talking about replacing gouges and such. Should have be a little clearer ( gotta get that second cup of coffee in me)
Sean -
I agree with thomas. Make tools to hold m2 carbide metal tool tips. You can use oil hardened drill rod( cheap at enco.com) and make any shape tool holder needed. Lots cheaper and work just as good as the expensive tools. All that is needed is a drill, tap, and a heat if you need to bend it( can be done with a cheap propane torch. If you want try looking it up on sawmill creek.com or woodturners resource( turnwood.net).

any one have these? Good quality?

Welcome colleen,
So do people call you thunderbird at home ? I prefer the Dzonoqua spelling though.

Hammerandtongs,
$200 is not bad for an older anvil in good condition. Some people are very lucky and find free or very low cost anvils and some arent( like me). My 200lb fisher anvil (from 1940) cost me $450 and i am happy with it. You may want to find a junkyard/ scrap yard(i dont know what they are called on the other side of the pond) as you may be lucky and find an anvil sitting there:D
Sean -
Yes but this one seems to have a cast steel plate on top as most older anvils do i know there were some that were cast Iron. My 200lb fisher has a 1 inch thick plate on top. But the fact is most new steel anvils are a little pricey for when you are starting out. You can get a forge , older cast iron with steel plate anvil, and many tools for the price of a single new cast steel anvil.

Just in case, those with small children please read

Hi thomas and all,
I was probably a little vague in my wording. sorry. Ethyl alcohol is also rubbing alcohol(which is poisonous) and is also in drinks. While this case is true an 0.85 BAL would have killed the child long before she ever got to the hospital. It also does not say how much she ate and most likely the case ( like the 0.85 bal) was blown out of proportion. Most children are fine with having this around just very young ones shouldnt be unsupervised with it(they think it smells good so it must taste good). There are many more products in most houses that are far more hazardous to children.
