  1. I ran into a guy the other day who was telling me a story where he ran into these kids doing it with a perfectly good Peter Wright -W.
  2. Need is not urgent, I want to use it for my first forge and I have other materials and tools to collect. I'll PM you my telephone number and email address. Might be easier to communicate that way, if you don't want to call long distance I could always give you a ring. Cheers, Will
  3. Brass is too soft. That said if you can get decent scrap take what you can and use it for bolsters, spacers and other handle material. -W.
  4. Thanks Mobility... I will probably need to get kaowool at some point anyway so good to know they have that also. Thanks for all the tips guys. -W.
  5. @Countryforge: I'm looking for 1 or 2 soft firebricks and 4 or so hard bricks... Size-wise I"m not sure... normal brick size each? @Dave: I'll take a look at that link! Thanks... I was born in Oakville so I'll let it slide -W.
  6. Anyone know an affordable and reliable source in S. Ontario (East of Toronto)? Cheers, -W.
  7. Thanks! Wellington isn't that far. The wife and I were in Belleville a number of times in the not too distant past. I really like that area. Cheers, -W.
  8. These days with 20 month old twin boys around the corner seems far sometimes -W.
  9. Hiya Morlock, yeah Halton was the stomping grounds of my misspent youth (Born in Oakville). I got the impression there was plenty and definately hoping to find some learning opportunities. I was browsing your website the other day. Nice stuff you make! I haven't joined OABA, I figured I had to learn something first . What can you tell me about it? -W.
  10. Hi All, I posted a brief intro in the introductions section. Anyone on here in my area? Cheers, W.
  11. Thanks! We're all just a enter key away in this day and age. Sadly you can't send weather though, I suspect you tend to have more sun than we get in the winter Cheers, W.
  12. Hi All, A quick introduction. I'm a complete newb to blacksmithing and I was directed at these forums from a member here when I was asking about basics. I hope at some point to hook up with some people in my area who are open to have a neophyte learn a few things. I'm a big outdoorsman which lead me to start making knife handles and sheaths so making my own blades is a natural progression for me. The first book I have picked up touching on the subject has been Wayne Goddard's $50 knife shop. Any other good recommendations? Anyone in the area East of Toronto (Durham region or thereabouts?) who wouldn't mind an "apprentice" of sorts? . Thanks! -W.
