  1. well if your in NW Ga We have a meeting coming up close to you , its the Phillip Simmons Artist Blacksmith Group of South Carolina,
our meeting is being held in Westminster SC,on saturday june 26th, it is about 30 mins from toccoa Ga. , you can PM me if your interested... ;)

  2. My wife is from Maldonado Uruguay , we went to visit the in-laws, man they know how to cook beef!!!
been wanting a parilla ever since...
good luck building one and post some pics!

  3. I went down to Pop's Knife Supply down in Washington Ga. and he was a real help, he was honest and gave me a good idea of what i needed and what i should start out with as far as belts. also bought some camel bone and ironwood for handles and i'm real happy with the 8 inch serrated contact wheel i got from him.
now I'm waiting on some steel i ordered from Kelly Cupples, when it comes in I hope i can find the time to weld up some Damascus and start doing something instead of talking about it!

  4. Kukris are one of my favorite bush knives , and theyre history is very interesting!!!
My link this site has a brief history of the gurka kukris
my first kukri was bought at a army surplus store around 1987 i gave it away sadly , and i really miss it... will look into getting another one :)

  5. i have always found that when you think , " man this is dangerous" you dont get hurt. it's always the everyday chore or "easy" tasks that get you...
we always need to stay alert and take a second to look at what we are about to do!
as for me i found out that i get to keep my job, which is a relief, and now i get to tell my story to the whole plant in our site wide meeting...
ugh... i just love public speaking, but i hope that it helps others be safer at their job...

  6. thanks for the advice jimmy,
i have made a 2 x 72 belt grinder and put a 10 inch wheel on it. figured i would start with a real course grit belt but dunno what to finish with , gonna prolly go get an assortment of grits from pop's knife supply and see what i like.

  7. got my middle finger on my left hand caught in a hydraulic drum dumper at work last saturday , it was flat as a pancake till i got to the hospital, didnt break any bones but got 12 stitches, and kept my finger by shear luck, this got me thinking, has anyone else had a really bad hand injury blacksmithing? or doing anything else?

  8. hey guys, what do y'all think i need as far as belt grits to start grinding knives?
I just ordered some 1080 and 15n20 along with some monel sheet for fun to make damascus , but
I don't know what grits for my belt grinder to use to grind the edge out once i am to that point.
    any suggestions would be appreciated!!!
    thanks

  9. hehe , if ya referring to the little anvil under the forge that one is my son's anvil, they are 5 and 7 and like to pound on it when they see me working in the shop, funny story about that anvil i got it from a friend who saw it at a yard sale, he described it as a " good anvil about 4 inches wide and 100 lbs" told him to buy it for 60 bucks, and it wound up being a 60 lbs cast ASO with voids in the face and cast marks and a crooked hardy ;) but worth the chance, i guess, and the kids like it!

  10. here's a pic of my latest gas forge, its the 4th one I've built and i think i am getting better at making them, gonna sell it once i get the regulator and hose for it.
    what do ya think ?
and what is it worth? lol

I call this one the dragon forge for obvious reasons :)
