Hi guys just finished the second rasp up and wanted to try some rawhide for the sheath. Well this is how it turned out. Tell me what you think.

Thanks for the comments guys. I made these kinda as a novelty type blade and I always thought they looked neat. For a work knife I would use 1095 or 5160. Before I heat treated I rounded all the sharp edges by buffing with a slurry of pumice and tooth paste on a felt pad. I normalized it 4 times before edge quenching it. It chopped through a persimmon wood board with no edge damage. The bigger blade just cut through a piece of kiln dried red oak 1x4 no damage, so it seems pretty tough. I've never tried the brass rod test not sure even what to do on that test. Thanks again for the comments. I'll put pictures of the big one up next week when I get my rawhide in to make the sheath for it. Looks real frontier like.

After working on it a little it grew on me. So last night I pounded out a bigger one and cleaned up the profile. The small is 8-5/8" overall with 4-1/2" blade. The bigger is 14" overall. Got some wrought soaking for it.

I like it, nice job forging. Do you like forging better or stock removal. It makes it nice to save time and have less stock removal.

Hi good people got a chance to play a bit today took a farriers rasp and hammered out this thing. Not sure I like it but it was fun to play with fire. Seems like forever, maybe two weeks, since I had the propane beast blowing fire at me. Still got to work it down and put a edge on it. It heat treated good.

My first blade was made from a old saw blade. I just sliced a strip out with the angle grinder. Then forged it to shape and draw filed it smooth. It heat treated well and holds a edge very good. Here's a picture. Go for it. Keith.

Are you familiar with PTREE forge? Right in your neck of the woods and Jeff is a great guy!

No not heard of them, do they have a website. I will have to check them out. I'd like to get to know more makers locally. I'm still new at this that is my sixth or seventh knife. It is hard to think right now I'm working on passing a kidney stone, fun fun fun.

Hi everyone I joined some time ago and yes I've been a lurker. I was thinking I have never introduced myself. So, my name is Keith. I live in Indiana across the Ohio river from Louisville Kentucky. I haven't been making knives long but am having fun figuring things out. I've been slowly getting a shop going and making my own tools and jigs as I go. Good evening, just wanted to drop a quick post and say Hi to everyone. I'm new to blacksmithing so I'll probably ask some pretty simple questions so I'll apologize here and now. I recently inherited a forge, anvil and lathe/mill combo. I have always been fascinated by people smithing at festivals and events every time I have seen them at work. So my personal tribute to the people I got the equipment from is to put these tools to work again.
