That is not wrought iron that is cast iron!! it is no good for hammers.
Forgot to add my choices for hammer steel are 4140, S7, L6 and H13 there are lots of steels that can be used another steel common would be 1040 don't waste your time with cast iron. -
Your power hammer should have it's own footing poured separate from your floor slap. This will isolate the vibrations. If it is a Little Giant I think Sid has footing info on his website it is a little over kill but worth the look.

I have made a lot of fire place grates and I just used good ol' mild steel, it is cheap and if need be replace it again in a few years. Just my thought and I bought the steel in the rem pile at .30 cents a pound could even use rebar.

Testimonials like this will hopefully keep potential customers from buying those manufactured knives that are inferior to a custom hand made knife. Good on you Karl.

Gene,
If I told you, you had to be wearing a tie you probably would not have come .
OK Jim you asked I delivered, does this mean you'll sign my copy of book 4. -
Here is a large fillet knife that was finished a little while ago, it was made for a customer but before I got it finished his wife called and told me that he has a bad liver and is very ill. She requested to cancel the order I told her I would and our prayers were with them and I finished anyway, I will put this up for sale no sheath was made as the customer had a sheath already that he wanted to use.
This knife has an ATS-34 blade heat treated, cryo quenched and tempered to rc58, heat treat was done by my good friend Gene Martin. Blade is 1 1/8" wide by 8" long by 3/32" thick. handle is brown canvas micarta with stainless steel pins. Overall length is 13". Blade has a 400 grit machine finish. -
Very cool Jim, love the pattern. What kind of bone are you using?

Would help if we knew what type of steel you are using.

Let us know how it is coming along as you build it. If you have any questions be sure to ask Daniel he is great about helping it may take a few days to hear from him as he is pretty busy so be patient. -
