  1. Mutt - yeah, I normally forge mine into an octagon or a square, and then forge them into a flat rectangle (pretty much like bar stock, just over 1/4" thick and 1" to 1.5" wide). It just makes sure that any voids or delams deep inside the material are stuck together. If they happen to come out rectangular to begin with, then I hammer them so that the dimensions swap, the slightly longer side of the rectangle becomes the slightly shorter side and vice versa. kc
