Warren Nakkela Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Hello Blacksmiths from Farm Country, I have some experience in sharpening plow lays but have never rebuilt a plowshare. I have a sixteen inch Deere plow with the older style lays (not disposable). Where can one obtain plow points. Here's what I want to do. First I think I should cut the cutting edge back so to remove the tapered cutting edge. Then square up the point to receive the plow point and weld an edge on the share as well as the point. Then forge out the edge and set the point for suction. I want to arc weld the point and and edge. I think that I should bevel the edge so that most of the welding is from the bottom. What rod should I use? Can I buy plow points. Would AR plate work for the edge? About 1/4 inch? What rod should I use on top? Thank you for any help that you may provide. Warren Quote
