November 5, 200817 yr Good morning, the name is John and I'm an old time lurker but first time poster. I'm looking for some information on an old vice I picked up and what better place to find vice info than a blacksmith/metalworking site ?? I have a Prentiss 8" 'Bull dog" vice. It's stamped Prentiss Vice Co. New York New York # 56 on the body and I'd like to get some history on it. Not much on the net other than a little company history... I'd like to find out approx age of the vice and value. I've blasted it taking off at least 4 coats of paint and have applied a coat of rustoleum hammered finish to it. The threads are coated with anti-seize and I'm about ready to install her on my outside metal workbench... Anybody educate me on this old beauty ??? thanks John Niolon
November 5, 200817 yr It classifies as a machinist's vise and not a "blacksmith's Vise". The only value is as a used modern machinist vise.
