January 22, 200818 yr First of all, let me acknowledge the title of blacksmith AND metalworking community. I am surely drawn to the blacksmith component of my work, but must admit that a lot of what I actually do is metalwork, so it is nice to be received by both communities. I started out building custom lighting about 8 years ago. Soon after starting, I was forced to get a UL listing for my product so that I could do certain jobs with architects, a local builder required it, an electrician required it once and it was needed for streetlights for my local community. I have "evolved" in to other aspects of ironwork including bannisters, furniture, etc., but usually return to my niche of custom lighting. If anyone would like to discuss elements of lighting, I would love to have a sounding board for this type of work. It is a joy to have discovered this site. But I really do need to get some work done today. Cheers, Jerry - Winthrop, WA
January 22, 200818 yr Welcome from another Washingtonian, just a hop, skip and a long drive from here! Been to Winthrop many times on my way to Washington Pass and Liberty Bell spire for rock climbing. This is indeed a great community for sharing! Larry

January 23, 200818 yr Perhaps we may whack away at some steel if you are out this way again! That would be fun, other than the classes that I've paid to attend, I've not made it to any other blacksmithing functions in the area or worked with or around another smith. I finally joined NWBA but won't be able to make it to the spring conference.
