smithatheart
does anyone know if a one inch thick plate would be ok for a striking anvil for when im doing shows I am not going to forge huge hammers with it but just small things like small axes small hammers
Mark Ling
if its possible to weld another 1 inch plate on top than that would be better, but than again I don't have a whole lot of experience with striking anvils, but if your forging smaller "stuff" on it than I think it will be fine. will be interested to see others responses. CoyoteGear
I picked up a piece of fork lift fork at the junk yard 2x5x24" about 70# for $20. It sets on the stand for my post vise and I use it as an upsetting block when needed. Seems like 1" might be a little on the thin side, and I have heard bad things from just welding 2 plates together. I'd look for a cheap piece of bigger stock.
