John Martin
This came to mind from the other thread about forging chains. Some chains that you buy will have the links that have been welded together in halves like this: (). Where as I make mine like O. Is there a benefit or disadvantage to these ways? whitebear
the half link chains are weaker. because there are two welds you have more of a chance of a weld breaking. rather than just one to worry about. it also takes less material to make. and is a commercial chain factory the half links are easier to make than a wrapped link. for a blacksmith i would say for any load bearing chain stick with the one weld wrapped chain link. John Martin
right now, my forge is covered in a tarp and buried under a foot of snow, as soon as it get's warmer, i'll add some more links, take a picture, and post it on here.
