Spear Point Hunter WIP

Featured Replies

it's been forever since i've gotten on the forums here, mostly because i no longer have internet service at the house.  i recently got back into my shop for a couple commissions, and figured i'd share this one.  Its a spear point hunting knife, 6'' of blade and 5'' of handle.  5160 steel, stock removal process, with Indian rosewood slabs for the handle material.  I'm making this for a guy i work with at my new job (since March) at a tractor mechanic shop and dealership.  he wants to put his grandfather's buck knife away so it doesnt get lost in the woods one day, so he hit me up.  after some discussion, he gave me free reign, just wanted something with a longer blade and budget friendly. i went with stock removal so that i wouldn't need a lot of shop hours to get to the finished result.  i got the blank prepped and my rough grinding worked out yesterday.  theres a false edge on the clip, mostly for weight removal purposes, as the stock is 1/4" thick.  further weight management will be accomplished by adding extra holes in the tang prior to slab fitment.  the finish will be nearer to a 320 grit, for a lower maintenance purpose.  heat treat to follow the wrapping up of my grinding.
