September 29, 201312 yr I am a beginner blacksmith, who just got my hands on my first real steel. i would like to sharpen my skills, or begin to have skill I should say. What would be a good project for a beginner blacksmith, that would help with my hammering, or other skills.

Had I thought/known about them when I was starting its a nice way to start and really fun to use. http://ipneto.deviantart.com/art/Throwing-spikes-402616487 simple flat tongs tent spikes. You can never have to many I started with lots of s hooks, j hooks, simple hooks for around the house. fire tools are always nice to have.
October 7, 201312 yr Thanks for posting that, WF. I printed the first exercises out, copied to Evernote, and am looking forward to getting some practice in. So far it's just been railroad spikes, which are a bear to beat into shape.
