Stumbled on this forum last week, scrounged some junk and built a crude mini-forge. Works pretty well. Initially had way too much air going in, then backed of w/ the shop vac. I would recommend a good pair of tongs from the get go. Start looking around swap meets and flea markets for rail road track pieces for an anvil. Have fun!
