September 20, 201015 yr Hello everyone, i am trying to make metal spoons from 20 gauge mild steel, does this have to be anealed to form them. Thanks for your help. Sean.
September 20, 201015 yr 20 gauge is on the thin side. You can do some forming then anneal, then some more forming. Sheet metal will go quite a ways in the as purchased state, but errant hammer marks will work harder an area you may not want hardened. If you make some dies and work in sequence and with care to the process you may not need to heat the metal at all. Or you can work it hot. Phil
September 21, 201015 yr 20 ga seems really thin. Not bad for the spooned part but flimsy in the handle area. I assume you will incorporate a groove or rib of sorts in the neck of the handle for strength? Just two or three cents worth of MHO Pics of results please. We like pics :D
