nc_cooter
The hardie in my new anvil measures .970". Should I buy 7/8"hardie tools or grind 1" to fit. In other words, how tight/loose should the fit be? Thanks.
primtechsmith
I would buy the 1", and grind to fit. A tight fit is always a better fit. It will be safer, and easier on your anvil... Peyton
HWooldridge
I agree with Peyton because .970 is only .030 under an inch. That's not very much to either remove or forge down to size - but - too tight is not good either if there is a wedging effect. Part of the reason some anvils are broken at the heel...you really don't want to be knocking hardies out of holes, they should be snug but loose enough to remove by hand. Tubal-cain
Keep in mind that the hardie will likely heat and expand faster than the anvil so a tight fit cold could become too tight to remove when you are working.
