Brendon
Hey guys. I just scored this anvil for free I can make out a few letters "LYN NY" I am guessing BROOKLYN NY Any idea on manufacturer, age, history?
Sask Mark
If it says Brooklyn, NY, it is probably a Hay Budden. If there is a serial number on the front of the foot, someone can help you out with year of manufacture.
Brendon
I'll look, although there's a bit of surface rust.
Dave Shepard
I figured it out, most of your steel is missing Brendon. :(
Brendon
Could be a restore project, like I don't have enough projects huh Dave. Where can I get tool steel to fix'er up?
Bentiron1946
Way too bad that poor baby is missing most of it's hard face back to the hardy hole. That is going to be one major restoration project. That would be a good project for a hammer-in where you get a bunch of folk together and forge weld a new face on. A really big job. pkrankow
Could be a restore project, like I don't have enough projects huh Dave. Where can I get tool steel to fix'er up? How about asking "what steel makes a good choice for refacing an anvil?" or "what steel was originally used to face Hay Buddens?" (Yes, I am asking) Gonna need 6 or more strikers and a good fire master to reface by fire welding. Let us know how it goes. Probably make a good event demonstration.
