November 13, 200916 yr These are my latest. The black one is from a farrier's rasp and the big one is from a leaf spring.
November 14, 200916 yr That first one reminds me of an Model 1890 U.S. Medical Corps knife, big mean looking blade to say the least. Wouldn't want an angry man coming after me with that!
November 16, 200916 yr Author No I didn't grind the teeth down. I heated the steel and hammered it smooth. The big one is kind of like a cleaver.
December 2, 200916 yr I have forged several knives from rasps. It is fun to explain to folks how I forged the "snakeskin pattern" into the blade.
December 21, 200916 yr Awesome knife Messerist! Maybe you wouldn't mind explaining that snake pattern,.....it never hurts to ask.
January 6, 201016 yr How thick is the large knife? I like the shape a lot, but you might have been able to grind/polish out some of those marks without making it too thin. On the snakeskin thing, I have to say: that is one cool pattern. I think I understand the principle: either grind the teeth off after forging the blade, or hammer them into the blade. Please correct me if I'm wrong though, I'm just guessing.
