I'm working on a rr spike knife and I've drawn all but the blade out about a foot and a quarter so I can turn t back up to make a "U" shape handle. But about an inch down from the blade I have 2 cracks and I can't seem to close them up.

What should I do? Perhaps "bandage" it with a strip of metal wrapped around or something? Any help is much appreciated!

You could clean the scale off and weld the cracks. Any of the welding processes would work. when you heat it up to finish the forging, just work the welded area with your hammer, and it will blend right in.

Agreed, your only real option is to weld it up. You could always cut, scarf and forge-weld it, as long as you haven't got any important details that would be destroyed. Easiest would be to just close it up with an electric welder - just make sure you're not using stainless rod, or something else that won't match. ;)
