Also after this picture was taken I made the holes slightly larger and a couple more near the center

i will have to push the hot spot above. I fired it up today and it seemed to work good, it brought a peice of mild steel up to non magnetic very quickly. The ash dump does te off at the bottom, the larger tube coming off at a right angle is where the blower hooks up to, the smaller tube below is the ash dump, however it is still not ideal and the plate with the holes is not removeable. Thank you guys for the input, this forge will work okay as a first one to practice making small knives but i will defenitly keep what youve said in mind in case i build a new one or modify this one. Thanks for commenting. The tube coming out at the bottom should collect some of the ash, other than that i didnt think that part out all that well :/ . I havent fired it up yet so i dont know about the holes, i can always drill them bigger if need be. and there is no way of restricting the airflow to part of the fire box. I started building it before i read a lot on this site so if i did it again id do those things differently. but for my first forge (and my first welding project) im good with the way it is.

Thank you for your reply. may ask the guy for a better picture of the face before driving an hour away to get it..I have been asking around locally but with no luck so far. If nothing else turns up by mid - end of the week ill check it out.

Thanks. The face looks pretty beat up in the pictures, how deep of gouges/dents would make it too hard to repair/not worth it?

At what point should should i not get this anvil? like how bad of a condition would make it not worth the buy?

Oh okay thanks. What are fishers made of? All steel?, Iron/, Or Iron with a steel face?

i do have access to a welder. i think ill go with the i beam because i do need to be able to move it, not sure exactly when ill be gettinit as i am still workin on building my first forge but pics will def. be posted.

The stage is fairly new, built about 6 years ago. we have 25 and 50 pounders. once i got one of these and do the grinding should i weld it to like an i beam?

yeah. weve got a ton of extras well never use on the stage, and since ive worked on sstage crew im pretty sure theyll give me one.

Hi everybody, this is my first post here. Ive been lookin around tryin to find some railroad track or an anvil but with no avail. However i am part of the school stage crew and there are 50 pound stage counterwights. they are rectangular, about 6 inch by 12 inch by 2 inch and weigh 50 pounds. Has anyone ever heard of one of these being used as an anvil? do you think it would work? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks much!
