Never had one, don't think I need one. Never met anyone with tetanus. Stepped on nails, cut with knives, needles, sharp rusty iron, bittin by dogs(in the face, hand, leg) 3x times. Never needed one. They had blacksmiths 100 years ago... didn't ever read how they all died of it. Right now would be a good time to do some reading on the net about vaccinations.

I have a coffee can full of about 1 inch bearings... could that be case hardended?? Would it be simpler to split in two, pound. Or pound?

Handles only decay from elements. keep using it and getting hand oil on it it will be fine. Taking care of a organic handle is important to make it last. The reason you find decayed anter is the sun, Rain, "which has traces of acid", or a porcupine eating it into the pith. Stabilize...?

Was wandering... I made a screwdriver out of them with a grinder. it worked well. Why when i forge them they get REALLT brittle, the last 2 FELL apart red hot on the anvil?

I found a large old water heater tank to try my first one. I was wandering about the metal, I think it galvanized. Will that be a factor at high heat? will it be bad to be around "toxic"? Is it a bad Idea to use it? Never done it before any advice would be appeciated.

If your not superstichous, slice it up that would be an awesome piece. You can use a knife... what do you do with the ivory?

Found out mountian ashe is not the same tree. So is it the fast growing wood that is better? Slow growing wood, like for a bow?

change you pic settings. I would not really worry about hardening it. Your a begginer like most of us. When you wear out your rail... you will either be done with smithing or you be addicted enough to sell someting dear so get an anvil.

I TRADED A 2000 blaster quad for two anvils. The treasure is in the eye of the beholder.

build your own if you worried about it. take a small section of pipe (i made mine 3 inches).
compact FINE bronze wool in to the pipe. Use a wooden dowel to REALLy smash it in. teflon tape and a few brass nipple and voila!

hard or not... I use several cottonwood rounds as tables. two anvils, a railroad rail, and a couple of vises. Ain't had one split yet, don't think they ever will... and they were free.

So you guys are telling me, the more I look like a blacksmith. The Better I will become? Most likely im at the shorter end of the blacksmith spectrum... 5' 4" 130?
