Bluerooster After reading through your process for the S7 steel one might want to do their own due diligence as to the heat treating process. I have hardened more S7 steel than I care to think about in my life as a Tool & Die-maker for the last 45 years. When tempering S7 steels one really needs to pay careful attention to the process. Normally I would keep my temps to under 500F with a couple hour soak. If one tempers S7 at 1100f you start loosing hardness fast, you will pick up some toughness but at a cost to wear resistance. Tempering is critical to the job at hand and what the tool being made is to be used for. One can quench their S7 in heated oil but only for a few seconds then it needs to air cool in still air until around 150/165f and then straight into the tempering stage. Good luck
