  1. Last last last in one.....

How much a sutable for a vice. In I'm seeing all the way up to $600. I've got a $50 hf or Lowe's one. Handle fell of but it's well rigged together now kinda. This would live outdoors in under stilt house covered from rain but it's ridiculously humid. I'm not a freak about it being in good or bad condition as long as it works . New sander and forge are out there now. (Sideways rain right now, Ian). Ima go unplug it!

I think I found how to read posts on notification.

    Tx

  2. Last, last one. Can I use 20 lbs of poorly welded and well cooked cable? Would it show anything more than a 1084 powder. Most is lightly twisted. I say well cooked but I'm pretty sure not over 2100. Is that hot enough to compromise cables integrity. Thanks guys. Hope y'all are all west coast.

    Tx

    Mgt look. No cusses again.

  3. I just remembered the best part about not knowing something is not knowing what you don't know. I've just decided to stay out of the cooker til I can process all these great tips given up until this post. I'm gonna have to print them all. Only then will I restart sending strands one by one to dust heaven. Everyone and Mr Frosty thanks for your time. Unless you're a stenograher this all must have taken considerable time and effort. I've tried post a few sets of thanks (they were cuss free) not allowed by mgt but you guys and you info are awesome. I might make a little reminder workbook to bring downstairs to  forge next time . Fatique is word I used, but not sure of. I'm only one in my forge so the vernacular is driven by not knowing.  What about concerns of "distressing" material welded by strikes on the immediate prior strike. Doesn't need to be too specific, just trying to see if that can happen. Like set metal strike, drops 50 degrees to below welding temp, then one extra strike. Damaging, not worth concern, conditional etc.? And I'm sure I'll find it when I print the above but how do I know when strands are cut off material versus try to reweld. Im getting decent at chasing strands but it all could come undone in the forge. Lastly, don't I need flux/glue in the bar weld? I know it's splatter for the feet but I'm not sure of a rule that tells you in absolutes whether or not to flux. i figure rule should cover rope and bar stock? Tx again all. Gonna wash everything off today w hurricane Ian so I'll be ready by next week I hope. Thanks again guys. GREAT stuff

  4. If I twist and only part in of it is white color, won't the other parts of the cable twisting at different colors easily w little inhabitant fatigue the metal. Tx  not arguing , just curious

C word above ( curious) means inquisitive in reference to answer about cable fatique. Not you know.

    No cusses

  5. I just tried and can hit 5 times in 15 but everything gets dropped. I know it's all wrong, just what I can put together. And I have no complaint about in depth info on the forum. I think I know what somebody is writing but then it turns out my knowledge is backwards. I'd quit asking if I got talked down to. My sense of pride is why I'm out there now

    Tx guys

  6. Jaws on the floor. More info than all in my head combined. I'm gonna have to print it up just to start breaking it down. Liked the part about swing through, not just to. Very applicable good kung fu too. I've been using the 1 pound cause it's fastest. I use 110 lb kettlebell s with each hand and I still can't move the 2lb more than 3 times in 15 sec window??? Thanks though and it'll take me a day just to organize what the thoughts will be. Great stuff. And tbi, come on now. If I had alopecia, asthma or scabies this would be really awkward. Thanks again, great stuff good writing for a tbi

  7. I think I'm gonna be gone now. Though I can't remember it, a moderator has in informed me they warned me (before?) this first post about about cusswords. Maybe I knew him or her as a child.

Anyway, thanks a lot for all your help. You guys have been awesome. I completely agree I'm in deep water but it doesn't seem to matter to me. I guess I'll be cussing alone with uncooked wire rope. Thanks again for helping soooo much

You guys keep your heads up

  8. Will the push contact be enough to lift the cable? I really like the propane forge idea as it takes 20 min of warmup to be ready and I'm back upstairs minutes after turning off the propane so I can think through the whole process. Plus fire here is a severe threat. I've grilled out twice with charcoal and now have two 1' circle burn marks. It is always super windy and neighbors houses are not brick (beach) and less than 25'from foundation to foundation so even quick '20'fires can get out of hand. Like blowing coals after I go inside

    Tx again

LJ the forge I bought was supposed to be capable of 2600. Would this kiln be more trustable? It couldn't be born in OR too, I'd guess that leaves Chinese production.

    Tx.

Still not cussing out of recidivism

TP I really don't care about soaking longer to get me to the usable heat I'm under now right?

If I buy the volcano, what to can I rely on from the factory?

  9. Mechanic is a good idea. I even use to work on cars. how hard do I push to make it stick, and what is stick? I can pull out of forge with this stick? Or does it just feel sticky

Sorry about poohole talk everyone. It seemed like I could claim it once or your members would use it often concerning my posts.

    Thanks guys

I'm not sure, but the insulation is more like crispy cotton candy than something ever covered with anything mortar like

Forge is hobung brand so I'm guessing Oregon?
