  1. Just a rant. What are your thoughts?

I found a niche in the market awhile back, don't get me wrong I'm grateful, but making the same thing can get tiring. They're not special, anyone could make them but as far as I can tell nobody does.  It's not life changing money or anything and it comes in waves but it does keep me from digging into my primary income to keep the hobby going. Sometimes I lose the passion to make them though and have to take a break.

I suppose it's a good problem to have. I have no online presence, no online store but that day might come. I've been smithing now for 5 years so that seems like the next logical step.  Maybe it's human nature, after all as the saying goes don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Anyway like I said. Just a rant.

  2. I would basically make an oversized rivet as the handle with the dome being the mushroom cap with maybe a 1" round bar. You'd be upsetting it for days but when it's finally domed you could really shape it to the size you see fit. Then get it smooth and maybe punch some "0" looking depressions randomly around on the dome.

After that you'd have to draw the stem down to be comfortable in the hand (guillotine would help) flare it out at the bottom then back down close to the diameter of the shaft of the poker and forge weld them together.

Then I would basically make small clusters of random sized rivets, stems drawn down, and weld those along the shaft where they wouldn't be in the way. I'd also experiment would texturing the shaft to look like bark. Make a traditional pointy end and BOOM you got yourself a mushroom themed poker lol.  Hope that helps. I definitely would like to see what you come up with.
