  1. Ken, any chance of seeing some before and after items that you have pressed? I'm looking to have a clearer understanding of presses and what they an do and what different folk use them for.

  2. Can anyone tell me if an arbour press is any of any use in a blacksmiths shop or art blacksmith shop? There is one on ebay. If so, would it need to come with some sort of press fittings, shapes? Do you have one? What do you use it for?

  3. Allan from Ballarat Victoria. This is a good idea. I can now print off all the names and maybe call in next time I go past? Everyone happy about that? I am starting small but looking to increase this area and decrease landscaping side of things. I enjoy the website.

  4. Sorry to list such a basic question but... When I light my forge fire, to begin with the airflow seems ok, ( I am using a vacuum cleaner so far.) but after an hour or so there is no or little airflow and the metal doesn't seem to heat up enough. Every now and then I put the poker in and lift the coals and it helps 10%. Is there something I am doing wrong or maybe a vac cleaner just isn't powerful enough?

  5. Hi, Since I joined a couple of months ago I have enjoyed reading the answers to many questions I have had. Keep it up, I'm learning.
Here is a problem I had today. I was making a bender to do scrolls and bends from a large wrench. I heated the handle and flattened it enough to keep it in the vise and bent the handle as well to curve it upright. When it cooled, I noticed that the handle was split in several places, sort of how slate splits. What is the reason for this?
