Looks like a saw makers anvil to me :)

My favorite anvil is my 350# KOHLSWA,its on a built up stack of plywood and on wheels.Shown here with my favorite Hofi hammers and [forgive me Uri] a Tom Clark :)

I looked at that Bader website and i see he has a portable belt grinder that can attach to a metal lathe,does this sound like a good idea?anybody have one?seems like it would spew alot of grit all over a sensitive machine :confused:

Im going for these, TM2000 High Accuracy Welding Eyewear mosty for gas welding,and forge welding with my tri burner.Though to be honest with you, in my home carport shop using a single burner horseshoers forge, i just wear my reading glasses since im just doing small work at an orange heat and not staring at the fire :cool:

Heres one i do all the time for people who stop by,the longer they stay the fancier i make it. Its simple, a couple of pig tails,then once around the horn,then up 90degrees,then curve it back down hook shaped.The one in the pic is 1/4in round but you can use square with twist,weld on leaves,use what you got.

I picked up one of those cheap benders,12 ton with 6 dies .5 to 2in today, worked great on that 3/4 schedule 40in the pic except you gota keep removing the work to check if you are at where you wanna be.I think its going to work fine for bending the railing of a little trailer im building i ll try to post the pics in the gallery it says im over size here:(

Hmm,the picture shows the fellow using a pretty fancy bowl lathe,to make the dies, i suggest going to ebay and search,hydraulic bender they start at 49.00+shipping.I dont think you will find anything to bend 4inch though thats some big pipe,good luck!

thats sounds right if the face is about 5 inches wide.

Im not saying there any thing wrong with that anvil,it looks in good condition .and its also true that in some parts of the world folks use a flat rock for an anvil.When i typed in ebay.co.uk this morning i see some very interesting anvils,like the saw makers anvil that is wrought iron with a steel face,note the sqaure hole in front. at 12 by12 by18 should be great for bladework and currently at 100 dollars with 5 hours to go is a steal and a big peter wright on a stand at 98dollars and 4 days to go,also the guys anvil and tools he says he got from the railroad co.30years ago is worth a look.What im saying is take your time and do the reseach ,if this is a big investment all the more reason to do some studying.I found my kohlswa 10 miles from my house here in south florida.good luck :)

Not personaly but i was watching This Old House a few years back when Bob gave away all the cast iron heating radiators in the house.Well they followed the guy to the scrap yard where they proceeded to pile up the radiators and some cast iron bath tubs, then with a crane and an electromagnet they lifted a huge sheet of STEEL and repeatedly dropped it until they had nothing but bits and pieces of cast iron.So hitting a big chunk of it shaped like an anvil with a STEEL hammer doesnt seem right to me. Some guys usem and are happy though:) My every day anvil is a 350 pound kohlswa that is cast steel ,which if its the last anvil i ever buy id be happy(my wife would be too!)

your looking at a london pattern anvil,about 210 pounds.I personaly dont think youll be happy with it very long.If you just have to have it, offer 75 bucks,that only if you dont have to travel far.With that 3 pound hammer you need a good quality anvil at least 150 pounds. :)

Try that sikaflex that hofi uses .

Looks like he used acid since even his touch marks are effected,or he tossed some metal filings on his anvil and worked the hot piece on top,easy enough to try!Then again maybe your thinking of a japan finish like you see on old binoculars and such thats like a black crinkle paint.:confused:

Looks great sam! my first try was a disaster, I punched the hole way of center even though i predrilled a 1/2 inch hole using a drill press!:(

You need to put 2 bbq tanks behind the regulator,simple plumbing using all hardline,ask the fellow at the propane store as to the fittings you need,also someones selling this setup on the web,zoller forge ??guessing. good luck,safety first!!!
