 you are correct and I was lucky enough to find this one. They always stamp the initial of the last name of the maker of the anvil maker before the weight.mine is 100 lb. Mine dates to 1902. I can't exactly quote (remember, I will call him mr. Z) you on his name but supposably he worked there from 1900 to 1940 and he could put a pocket watch on an air hammer and touch it without breaking the crystal....... yeah that's what I'm talking about. I love it and I love the soul all about it it'll be with me until I die

is that usable in damascus steel?

I just picked these up from an estate sale. not sure what they are but they are HEAVY. My thought is to use them as an anvil to light forge and form steel or make a power hammer out of them.But what are they? they have a "L" and "R" on them. some kind of die or something. never seen anything like them. I also got lucky and picked up a jar of ? Don't think it is graphite the glass is clean. im hoping it's powdered steel. Is there a way to tell? thank you for any knowledge.

I have an old Trenton I just was able to bring home to live with me.Thank you No Name for all his info. I would like a date it and any other info I can get about it and the company. Hello, I'm new to this site.But you were where everyone pointed to for reliable info. I was lucky enough to pick up a 100 lb. Hay Budden in great shape. I was trying to get help dating it. NOT for retail sale.I will die with this in my shop.   A29364 is the serial number as best as i can read. the 9 and 3 are iffy.But it looks like 5 numbers.From what i can find it's early 1890's....? I really am interested in the history behind this anvil.Any help would be great for this noob. Thank you. Ben T.
