haha well thank you Mikey. I mainly just build a square shaped forge because I figured it would be much simpler to build. I also had nothing cylindrical kicking around and the price to buy some plate at Metal Supermarkets wasn't outrageous  One of these days im sure ill get around to making a tubular version. It seems I spend more time making things to forge then forging itself LOL

Hey guys I know its been a long time since I last updated on the burner issues. As of right now its working great, I swapped the 1"-3/4" reducer to a 1 1/2"-3/4" reducer and now its good. I also changed up the design of the forge a little bit because the steel plate around the door opening was starting to warp from the dragons breath. Instead I took the plates off and welded some angle to slide firebricks in and out. This is also really handy when it comes to changing up opening sizes and such. So I haven't been home in time from work to go to the hardware store so the burner is on a bit of a standstill right now, however I did get some work done on the forge. I lined it with ceramic blanket and coated the inside with rigidizer. Can I get away with just that? I'm not too concerned about longevity I just don't want to be breathing in fibers. The floor will be hard firebrick so it's not getting hit by direct flame.

Hahaha. I think I may have found the reason it's running rich. I have a 1" to 3/4" reducer instead of a 1 1/2". Back to the hardware store I go

That's a lot to take in lol I thought it was burning great but I guess that shows I don't know much hence why I'm on here. I will shorten the 3/4" nipple, but the burner doesn't even run without that sleeve on the end, from what I understand it needs some kind of transfer in diameter to get a good draft or however you call it. I'm going to play around with the fittings once I have everything set up, when I know where I'm going to place the fuel supply and so on, it's all just Jerry rigged temporarily. I do take safety pretty seriously, that's actually why I'm building a gas forge in the first place. I'm going to take another video of the burner closer up and with no music and you can be the judge of how it sounds. I will look into buying a 2" to 3/4" reducer if it does need more airflow and maybe put in a smaller jet hole. I kind of want to run it in the finished forge first and see if it runs any differently, better/worse. I finally managed to get ahold of some blanket and rigidizer so I'll be doing a little bit of work on it tonight, I'll update you guys as I go along. Had some luck playing around with the burner, turns out it was majorly out of alignment. I mounted it in my unfinished forge just to test out the burner in an enclosed environment and it seemed to work great. I decided to mount it through the top, If I don't like the way it works I'm going to try the side mount and plug the top hole. Thanks buzzkill I'll have to look into the burner block design. Hey frosty, the piece of pipe on the end of the burner is the sleeve that's supposed to be forged into a 1/8' flare at the end, the design has been improved since then and was said to not "require" a flare as long as your not running the forge over 25+ psi. The length of the nipple underneath is 8" - the thread on one end so around 7 1/4". As of now the burner has no flare but it transfers from 3/4" to 1" inside diameter with the sleeve on the end. I ran some water through it yesterday and in order to have the water exit through the center at the bottom the jet hole was way off center at the top, could this be caused by a bur? The 1/8 brass nipple running through the reducer might not be perfectly square so I'll take the file to the holes tonight and try and get it as good as I can. If I mount the burner horizontally do I need a hard firebrick on the side wall or is blanket sufficient?

Hey guys thanks for your input, I'm not exactly sure what psi I'm running the burner at but if I turn it up too high it shuts off. My regular goes up to 20 psi I think it's full flow/high pressure. I'm unable to test it in the forge yet because I'm waiting on some blanket still, will probably get to it this weekend. I bought some brass parts today to hook up a water hose. I will check alignment when I get off work tonight. Do you think a #57 hole is too big? What is a cast burner block? I'm going to attach a picture of the forge itself for you guys, it's 9" x 12" the chamber will end up being 5x4x12 after the brick and blanket go in. What's the positive/negative of a side mount instead of top mount burner?

Hello guys, I am in the process of building a propane forge. It is a square style mini forge with one burner. I am having issues with the burner. It is a Ron reil ez burner design. I have copied the design to exact specs, the only thing I have not done is flare the sleeve but I'm under the assumption that it isn't necessary. I may be wrong let me know haha. So the problem I am having is that when the burner is pointing down the flame starts sputtering and sounds like it wants to come backwards up the pipe, but when it's sideways it works perfectly fine. Alright. To be honest I don't think it got nearly as hot as you guys are describing. It was barely even warm to the touch where the colors occured. It was just the first time i'd seen that so it got me thinking. Regardless ill try not to keep my steel in the same spot for extended periods of time. Cheers

Hey guys im not sure if this is a stupid question, I feel kind of dumb asking it. Can an anvil lose temper from the heat of the steel your forging? I was forging some 1 1/2" round yesterday and when I pulled my piece away to reheat I noticed some bluish colour where I had removed it from. Thanks

The Anvil weighs around 175 pounds, I think the middle number is a 2.

So I took a better look, on one side it has the numbers '1' '?' '5'. On the other side I think I can make out OL then underneath that HOL.

Really nice stands guys. I built this one out of some scrap angle iron and its still being modified here and there.

Hello guys, i picked up this anvil for a good price this weekend. I cleaned it up with a wire brush and can only distinguish a few letters and no numbers or words. I would love some help itentifying it if its possible just by visual qualities. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hey guys thanks a lot for all your input, really helps me out. I really like the uniqueness of it. I already have an old Peter wright with a decent horn and a 1" hardy hole but the face is almost un usable, so something like this would work well alongside it. I think I'll go take a look at it and if it rebounds nice I'll pick it up.

Hey guys, I found a rather unique looking anvil for sale on kijiji (Canadian Craigslist). I'm not sure what it's made of or what it's specifically used for but the fellow says it has good rebound and that its very old. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Would it be as useful as a regular anvil? It's posted for 200$ Is that a fair price? Thanks!

Alright thanks for the info biggun, I'm going to just use it as is and I think I can work around the bad parts, I just hope the chipping doesn't get any worse. Should get a chance to try it out soon but I gotta wait until I get some fuel to burn in my forge, seriously can't wait

Hello Frosty, thank you very much for your wisdom I'm going to heed your advice and just work on it how it is. I think there is a couple of decent flat spots on the anvil that I could use. Do you have any idea the age of this anvil? 

Hello guys I need help identifying the age and material that this anvil is made of. I picked it up at a barn sale for a pretty good price, its got some damage on the face and sides and I was wondering what I could do to fix it up. How deep are these old anvils hardened? I need to take off a good 1/4" from the face to clean it up, could I get it milled down? Thanks
