  1. I'll definitely take your advice on that. I've only been working mild steel as of yet (and whatever mystery steel rebar is, hehe). I'll definitely try the cardboard demo first- like I said, I'll have to figure out how to work a higher carbon steel. Also... You can make them left and right handed? Oh dear.
  2. That's absolutely awesome, thank you Yahoo. I definitely didn't see that when I visited the site. Ill be sure to post a picture of the 'finished' product- though I don't think I'll be doing the shearing, Frosty. Thank you guys again! Zinc
  3. Do you mean the U shaped fold in the handle of single bow, or right near the end of the blades? And I'm under the impression this is for general shearing, as far as I know. I think I'm just hung up on the blades on the bow- I've heard the blades being a separate piece, and them being forged in the same piece as the bow. I'm really sorry in advance- I'm very new to blacksmithing, and I know this is probably a much harder piece to be getting into!
  4. Ah, I got ya. I was just a little confused as to the size of stock one would have to use to make it all in one piece! I see what you mean about the part that's folded over on the blade, I didn't know that was for adjusting the angle? As much as I'd like to make a more modern pair, this is for a more period project.
  5. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with making spring type sheep shears? They are part of a project for a friend, and in every picture I found, it looks as if the blades are separate from the handle, and either welding on, or a small piece of the handle is turned over, squeezing the blade in place? Thank you in advance! Zinc
  6. Hello there everyone! I've been reading this site for a little while now, I thought I would make an account and introduce myself! I've just recently started blacksmithing, over here in western PA, and I've heard this is the go to site for blacksmiths to ask questions and discuss such things! I hope to learn a lot from you guys in the future. Thank you! Zinc
