Well,... I guess as a civilization we have come a long way!

Oh yeah! 17 years out of the navy and I occasionally forget that no matter how hard you try and try you still can't polish a piece of dung.
Thank you for reminding me,

I reseat them and then rewedge with a coin if I have nothing else. Dimes for carpenter and small ball peens and nickles and quarters for bigger hammers.

You grew up thinking Jean Shepard's radio show, LP's and live shows were the height of great story telling and comedy.

Good luck to both of you. This is a hard time for guys his age and all of us and our families. You are in our prayers.

I'm old. Not that old but old. Don't squat about draft animals, grew up in the city.

Prayers for you both.

Thanks you all.

With the references to jew's harps and kazoos and being an old Jean Shepard fan I can almost hear a chorus of when the Saints Come Marching In playing in the background.
I'd agree that a good jew's harp cold be forged.

Here's a picture of Jon working with Margaret. Sorry, no dramatic pictures of a forge weld blasting sparks. This was an excellent event.
Check out http://www.northeastblacksmiths.org/ for the dates of the Spring Hammer In. Good group and program at beautiful Ashokan.

My wife and I had an excellent day at Jonathon Nedbor's Canal Forge in High Falls, NY on Saturday. Jon and Mark demonstrated the making of tongs and bending forks and forge welding. Great stuff. Jon spent a lot time with us taking us through making a set of tongs. Made the process obvious to us both.
The group raised funds for Doctors Without Boarders' work in Haiti.
Well done to Jon and Mark and the folks of Northeast Blacksmiths Association.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Among all the things I have to be thankful for, I'm thankful to everyone here for the inspiration and information.

I downloaded Sketch Up this weekend for other uses and it appears to have a lot of functions not apparent in the basic tutorials.
It took more than one try to down load. Two were very slow and resulted in corrupted files. Tried once more and it came quick and operational.

I'm surprised at the big majority of Army service here. I thought there'd be more sailors in the community.
My buddy and I did put together a forge and foundry between deployments in Norfolk, VA. Disregarding all but the most basic safety considerations. Once we were worried if we could actually cool off the foundry before we had to get back to the ship and get underway.

Nice simple set of instructions.
Thanks,
