  2. Bruce, as a builder i am constantly checking freeze depths and it changes with the type of foundation, and if there is in the example of a mobile home, skirting around the piers / foundation.

In your area, the normal foundation freeze depth is 36 inches, which you are at, but the table i see with your situation, pier with no skirting, is 48 inches, i believe this is why you have the frost heave.

here is a link to the PA frost tables, pdf file page # 4

  3. Mark, thank you for the step threw photos, i have always found your work to be top notch and inspirational, If your ever teaching on the east coast, i would be sure to be there. In the final photo, it shows the angled from the center out veinig, are those just hammered in or chiseled in ?

  4. Hi all, while i was searching today, i found one of the things i was looking for, it was to FILL the pipe with sand to keep it from collapsing while it was being forged. ... THIS is awsome, that's what i am looking for, i want to be able to shape it, bend it, work it. some of the replies have been very helpful, I hope this also helps other looking for this information.

  5. I did some reading on thermite and how to make your own, i left out the first few strps, but read step 4

    Step 2
Place the thermite in a safe area, away from everything. For added safety, contain the thermite in a clay pot, which won't burn when the thermite does.

    Step3
Heat the fuse strip with a propane torch.

    Step 4
    Run like xxxx.

Step 4 would be enough for me, i read that thermite burns at 4000 degrees, think that will melt just about everything.
