  1. I want to thank everyone who took part in today's anvil ringing memorial for Phillip, I have posted a video on youtube of the ringing in the shop.   6. Bruce, as a builder i am constantly checking freeze depths and it changes with the type of foundation, and if there is in the example of a mobile home, skirting around the piers / foundation. In your area, the normal foundation freeze depth is 36 inches, which you are at, but the table i see with your situation, pier with no skirting, is 48 inches, i believe this is why you have the frost heave. here is a link to the PA frost tables, pdf file page # 4

  8. Mark, thank you for the step threw photos, i have always found your work to be top notch and inspirational, If your ever teaching on the east coast, i would be sure to be there. In the final photo, it shows the angled from the center out veinig, are those just hammered in or chiseled in ?

  10. they would be good if you make an old style door with blacksmith made hinges of course, use the nails as elements of design on the front side of the door .

  14. Hi all, while i was searching today, i found one of the things i was looking for, it was to FILL the pipe with sand to keep it from collapsing while it was being forged. ... THIS is awsome, that's what i am looking for, i want to be able to shape it, bend it, work it. some of the replies have been very helpful, I hope this also helps other looking for this information.
  15. Hi all, been searching archives for ifo on forging black sched 40 pipe, and do not see much in the way of how-to type tips, other than the 117 deg. v block. any info on it out there ???
  16. I did some reading on thermite and how to make your own, i left out the first few strps, but read step 4 Step 2 Place the thermite in a safe area, away from everything. For added safety, contain the thermite in a clay pot, which won't burn when the thermite does. Step3 Heat the fuse strip with a propane torch. Step 4 Run like xxxx. Step 4 would be enough for me, i read that thermite burns at 4000 degrees, think that will melt just about everything.

I have a friend who volunteers at the farmer museum, checked with some folks and he is still in the cooperstown area, I did some more google searching, and found thislisting for a knive class he was teaching not to long ago, maybe you can contact this location to get his current contact info...   23. I was just reading about coal fires in a bladesmithing book, and i wonder if with the old coal, there is a big ol clinker killing the fire ? just a thought.
