I built a hammer with a #110 head and used an air cylinder for the linkage. It was a tire hammer in every other way. We put an air valve or tire stem on each side and used it to control the stroke. I just sold it on Sat. I'll find some pics of it

We run all our three phase on a converter we built out of an old 20hp 3phase motor and it works fine.

Sorry I posted in the wrong place how do I move this to general

At the show I did, an owner of a primitive store wanted more rustic forgings. Candle holders and snuffers and other usable items. I would welcome any input

You have a great collection of items that show you are an artist. Thanks for posting the pics, they're great.
Mike -- Thanks for the great advice. As I am just starting out I will take your comments and put them to use in the near future.
Francis -- I agree about having a forge up and running on site. Nothing gets peoples attention like a little smoke and the "ting ting ting!" of an anvil.
Ianinsa -- Used motor oil huh? I just happen to have some. Will try it this afternoon.
Did any of the RR bottle openers sell? I was about to make some but aren't really sure that there is a market for them. Like Mike said, I reckon it depends if there is a beer wagon nearby.
Good luck next time, don't get discouraged!

I sold two of the bottle openers $15 each, several hooks and a dinner bell -
Thanks mike I can and have done most of the things you were talking about. With my time and their money being on the short end the welds keep things priced lower. I do slit and drift a lot of the time and I can forge weld but it is tough to explain why they should spent the extra money for something they are hanging 7ft off the ground. I am doing another show in two weeks and I have the time this week to add some different items. Thanks for the feedback

I had a great time I enjoy talking to people about blacksmithing. I don't want to do demos b/c I like big iron and after laying brick all day I power hammer not hand hammer. Talking to potential customers is almost as much fun as forging. Collecting money is the most fun.

Congrats on the new toy!.... So you have a 110# Big Blu as well? Id be real interested to know what you think of the new little brother in comparison...
I forged with the 65 and I am happy. My 110 is the old style withe the bolt on dies but it works great. The 65 hits faster and uses less air I have both hammers set up with different dies, combo on the 110 and crown on the 65 and I was back and forth all day. It hits different but I think I'm going to be very happy. I was going to get the 155 but then I realized I just wanted it because it was bigger. There is a lot of control with both hammers, I did everything from draw small tapers to cold texture flat plate yesterday. -
I'm going to put air on it today I will let you know. I got to play with it at the BB shop and they have posted several videos on you tube. I forge mostly 3/4 and 1in and Dean said they have been forging heavy at 90-110 psi

Hilti makes some great epoxy. If not use red head expanding anchors. I would put it in the joint.

Hey Tim I think we talked around the first of the year. I sold my large friction press but I still have a #8 Z & H for 3700
-
I have one that I would let wonder off for the right cash about 3700

I'll work on some pictures. I'm in NC outside Charlotte and I'm asking 4200 for the large one and 3500 for the not so large one.

I have two of these presses in my shop and I would like to place them in a good home with a fair price. One is a 100ton and one is an 80ton I think. Do you know any one that might be looking for one?
They look scarey but they feel safer than an air hammer -
I have a Z&H #7 and a #10. I live in NC and they are in very good shape. They are 3phase but I run them off of a converter made from an old three phase motor, very easy to make. If you are interested let me know.

Great job Alec. I just started doing craft and home shows this year too. All of your work looks great I think I'll have to try the snails, what did you start with for them.
