  1. Thanks for all the support. I'm still not quite where I want to be with my other project before I can get heavy with blacksmithing yet. Just getting tooled up and educated right now. I'm far from rich but I'm in the position where I have less time than money.
  2. 212 lb Peter Wright. I felt that with this type of thing the time to buy is when you find it. There's a bit of chipped edges and most edges are rounded. The horn is worn unevenly but the rebound seems very good and there's no huge gouges in the face. I paid $500. Was it a fair price for the condition?
  3. Thanks for the replies. I won't be able available for the ABANA meet this weekend or the 4th of July weekend but I'll try to get to Winston-Salem on the 28th. I've got two books on the way that seem to be recommended often for beginners. My instincts tell me that I'm going to be obsessed with forging but I'm going to plan on building a charcoal forge on the cheap and make an improvised anvil from a sledge hammer I have. I'll fool around with this till I determine whether or not to invest in better equipment.
  4. Hey, thought I'd introduce myself. I've been very intrigued and interested in forging after watching a documentary "Secrets of the Viking sword". I stumbled across the movie on Netflix hoping to find Vikings the television series. Anyway I thought it might teach me something that I could apply towards a motorcycle project that I'm working on. I ended up watching the documentary three times thinking of how awesome it is to create something from raw materials. I was saving up for a better TIG welder but now I'm going to put the money towards a good blacksmithing setup and start hammering.
