I would say make it modular, with a Solid middle. I got cad Ill draw something up.

If I knew you were close enough to me, I would be willing to give you a short piece of railway track. If you put your general location in your profile, there might very well be someone near you who could help you out similar

I think for the moment I might just use an I-beam. Mostly just blade forging.

"I have heard that they get soft in the middle after a few months." No, they start soft and get destroyed by normal use.
Cast iron without a steel face plate is no more an anvil than tofu is prime rib. That is why they are called ASO, anvil SHAPED object.
LoL Noted, I noticed people said that they are welding steel plates on them. Worth a xxxx?

Has anyone used the Central Forge Anvil before? Its within my price range, and close to me. I have heard that they get soft in the middle after a few months.
Thanks!

Welcome to IFI. Great resource and fellowship here.
We have one blacksmith organization "sorta" centered in the Harrison, AR, area not too far from you. Members are scattered in NW Ark, S. Mo., E. Okla. Last meeting was in Springdale and next meeting in April is in Gentry, AR near Siloam Springs north of you at the Tired Iron Show at the fairgrounds. We meet second Saturday each month. New members and visitors are welcome.
The BOA indeed does demos at Harrison on occasion for some festivals and at the Rusty Wheels antique tractor show Caius mentioned.
Check out the "Blacksmith Organization of Arkansas" on facebook for more info. There is another organization, as Eddie Mullins eluded to, down in Jonesboro with a sizable membership.
I shall sir!
I look forward to meeting everyone!

I'll tell the cousins to keep an eye out for you! Next of kin?... It's old family land as my great Grandfather was the blacksmith in Cedarville and ended up with over 900 acres before he died, probably took land for work during the depression... My father's side is from Fort Smith for a hundred+ years or so.
There is an organization of Arkansas knifemakers too.
Nice, I will have to look it up, I am wanting to try a bunch of off the wall forge welds.

Wow; I plan to drive almost1500 miles each direction just to attend the Quad-State conference and a world class school in the same state is "A bit far south"... You may never be this close again.
Wow; all depends on my boss (wifey) lol. I didnt notice, did they say it was free?

Well I have 13 acres in Cedarville, AR and a passle of kinfolk in that region though I'm living in NM right now...
Very nice land up that way. I hike all through it very often lol.

Welcome aboard. I am in the NE corner of the state. If you aren't already aware there is a Blacksmith Organization in AR and there may be members near you. Our chapter meets in Jonesboro.
BTW - powerhammer builds require lots of pics to be posted on here or it didn't happen LOL. I am actually hoping to build one later this year myself, so please post away.
I shall sir, I am in the "Acquiring" phase, got around 1/5th of the required materials.. I have the motor assembly and an Idea on how to clutch it.

Yes, I should of googled lol. A bit south for me, how ever I will give it the ol' college try.

sounds like a method of introducing cold shuts without a lot of welding passes and folding and welding would mess with the snake.
Are you familiar with the ABS school down south?
I am not, where abouts is it?

Hello All,
New to this site and still moderately green in general. I have done a !SMALL! amount of forge welding and I have a question, or a try it and let me know/ill post pics eventually.
So I am planning on making a Serpent sword viking style and I was wondering if I took a curved re-bar in between a few layers of varying steel plates Would I get the snake patter?
Just curious, I know the issues of re-bar, everything from shattering to en even quality. but I think I got some good stuff for free which is allllllways nice. Thanks!
Central Forge Anvil Review anyone?
