  1. My first anvil was a piece of rail maybe 10" long. I mounted it laying down (flange down) and radiused the top heavily for about 1/3, lightly for another 1/3, and ground the last 1/3 flat. Maybe not the most efficient setup but it worked for me and I still use it for drawing out heavier stock with a big hammer when my arm is a little tired...
  2. A forge welded ring with upset scarfs would cover a few bases with the benefit of not needing 3 hands to weld it.
  3. I tend to expect the worse so that i generally end up happy...
  4. First off I appologize to anyone that may be annoiyed by my post and if this isn't the correct place for it... I was just cruzing CL and found a listing for an estate sale in WV. I won't say which town/city it is under out of respect for anyone that already had plans to attend, but it starts with the letter "M." Anyway there is a pic of many anvils, swage blocks, and how knows what else all dumped in a big pile next to a big pile of "scrap iron." The way the posting is worded it's not clear to me that they know what a swage block is and I'm all sick to my stomach with the idea that they'll be sold as scrap unless they're sold to scrapper and not a smith...I'm just asking that anyone who can go, does go and saves anything they can! Agian I'm sorry if I've just told everyone about your "secret" but i had to say something. Rylan
