  1. Matto, on the inside of your hood did you weld in something to act as a smoke shelf? Before I close the front of mine in I wanted to find out if it was necessary.
  2. I think I might have enough 16 ga. to make a 10" square exhaust pipe system. That should be large enough to create a decent draft shouldn't it?
  3. I don't know why the link to the plans didn't show. Because they have been removed, Jock does not want anyone posting links for his site, No clue why.
  4. I saw these plans online and started fabrication. It looks like it should do what we need to. I have to finish insulating the walls and mount some cement board behind the hood. Still looking for a leg vise, but I'll try to be patient. I'm waiting to pick up a piece of 1/4" plate for the front. Has anyone else built a similar hood? Should I put a smoke shelf in it before closing it in?
  5. Thanks for the reception. Working on a platform for him to stand on until I locate another anvil. He's got his boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. I'm trying to either find him a leather bib online, or get the materials to make one. Since he doesn't quite have the guns, he'll have me as his striker for a while. This is a great father/ son hobby and I'm glad he initiated it!
  6. Hello all. My 7 year old son has been hammering soft steel on an anvil I inherited from my grandfather. We realized that he was ready to move up, so I build a brake drum forge. this journey has been fun and we are excited to practice and learn more. We are trying to make all of our own tools, so this will take some time and I'm certain it will be more rewarding.
